Album Artists vs Contributing Artists inside mp3

Posted by myfreebird on March 2, 2011

Windows Media Player uses its own matadata, and includes the two different fields of “Album Artist” (Artist in MP3 tag) and “Contributing Artist”.
For example, for a recording of Mozart’s various opera arias, the Album Artist should be Mozart, while the Contributing Artist should be the vocalists, conductor, orchestra, and chorus.
It only makes sense to scrobble Mozart in this case, instead of the long list (and sometimes mixed) of performers.
As much as I believe the performers should get credit (and therefore all of their names properly tagged),
The Album Artists are Those Bands/Singers who released the Album.
The Contributing Artists are those who are there as featured artists in one or two songs or maybe more n they are not really a part of the band compiling the album…

Yeah that’s definetely right. Windows Media Player shows this information very well. And the file Explorer shows it as well. When I play it in the music application in my phone, it shows the contributing artist as the main artist which is very annoying. It should be showing the album artist as the main artist. I still couldn’t figure out which one is the right. Music players may show the wrong information. I trust what Windows Media Player shows.
